Darkness to Light
Studies have estimated that 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will experience sexual abuse. As a community with many children it is important that we are equipped to deal with this issue in a Christian way. The one session course “Darkness to Light” is designed to inform about what sexual abuse is, how to take steps to minimize the risk, how to recognize signs that abuse has occurred and how to respond in a Christian way. Now that many churches are taking steps to ensure they have a safe church policy in place, it is equally important to know how we should behave and act, when we encounter abuse in our circles.
To take the course you must be 18 or over. Those who are 17 years old may come, but must have signed a parental consent form.
The cost for the course is $25 per person. It is to be offered at the Chilliwack Free Reformed Church (October 19, 7:30pm), Willoughby Heights CanRC (October 23, 7:30pm), and Abbotsford CanRC (October 25, 7:00pm), and. The presenter is Gerda Vandenhaak, a member of the Edmonton-Immanuel CanRC.
